Zi Tong’s path into architecture is shaped by an interest in how ideas become buildable, meaningful spaces — from the first reading of a site to the many practical decisions that carry a project through design, coordination, and construction. Trained at the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Master’s in Architecture, recipient of the Pioneer Architect (Lim Choon Kiat) Prize 2013 and Winner of the Kengo Kuma 5 University Review 2013. He brings together design thinking, project organisation, and a hands-on understanding of how spaces are planned, detailed, and delivered.

His work spans masterplanning, private homes, commercial and interior spaces and places of worship projects. Rather than seeing architecture as a fixed object, Zi Tong is interested in buildings as part of a larger system of people, place, time, and resources — where clarity of planning, material choices, and long-term adaptability all shape the final experience. This extends into his interest in the “kit of parts”: the way repeated elements, modular thinking, and carefully resolved details can come together to create spaces that are efficient, adaptable, and quietly expressive.

He believes that trees are more than symbols of nature — they are witnesses of time, growing, weathering, adapting, and carrying the memory of place. In the same spirit, Zi Tong sees buildings as living structures: spaces that evolve with their occupants, respond to changing needs, and gain meaning through time.

At Treehaus Architects, Zi Tong works closely with clients, consultants, contractors, and the studio team to guide projects from early vision to built outcome. His approach is practical yet reflective, balancing creative exploration with careful coordination, so that each project can remain grounded in its context while responding clearly to the needs of the people who will use it.
